Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine

The ancient tradition of Chinese herbal medicine uses strategic combinations of herbs to treat illness and unbalance in the body. BlueSky Veterinary Center offers traditional Chinese herbal medicine as part of our holistic care options. We can use our Chinese medicine techniques to complement your pet’s regular care, or as a standalone treatment option to help restore health and wholeness to your four legged friend.

The practice of herbal medicine involves the use of whole plants and plant extracts, in combination, as a natural method for disease treatment and health maintenance. It is particularly effective in managing chronic illness and is favored because it doesn’t produce many of the side effects that are often associated with pharmaceutical drugs. For pets that are sensitive to pharmaceuticals or may not be well enough to handle medication, such as elderly animals, herbal therapy is an excellent option.

Traditional Chinese herbal medicine can be used:

  • In the treatment of diseases that may or may not be treatable by conventional methods
  • As part of a more integrative plan involving other methods for a more enhanced therapeutic effect
  • To manage chronic illness and those conditions commonly associated with aging, such as immune disorders, arthritis, renal problems and more
  • To strengthen and support a stronger immune system and prevent disease
  • To aid in the recovery and rehabilitation process following injury, surgery or illness
  • To treat animals that have drug sensitivities or for which other methods have not be successful

Herbal medicine is often used in conjunction with other alternative therapy options, such as acupuncture, to provide a more comprehensive approach. It should be noted that herbal treatments can take slightly longer to achieve desired results than conventional methods, producing a more gradual sense of balance and improved health, but in a much more natural way. Each patient is provided with a customized treatment plan that we feel will produce the best possible results.
